Taste of the Wild: Grilled tandoori kokanee (or trout)

According to Brad Trumbo, who hails from the Pacific Northwest where kokanee is an abundant game fish, “There are worse things in life than kicking back on the boat on a gorgeous spring morning while the downriggers troll a small squid bait in the vicinity of a kokanee school.”
He is also quick to point out that when you reel up a kokanee, “chrome-bright and destined for the cooler, it is a prize not to be squandered.”

Commentary: Scrap antler restrictions in Pennsylvania disease areas to slow CWD spread

In a recent two-week period, two positive cases of CWD were found in wild deer, both adult bucks. One was in Carbon County and the other in Luzerne County, locations 10 miles apart.
A Pennsylvania Game Commission spokesman said the following “Given that the positive deer in Carbon County was displaying clinical signs of the disease, it was likely infected for a year or more, spreading prions all the while.”

Ryan Rothstein: Turkey hunting and whitetail scouting go hand in hand

Inevitably, despite my best intentions to be an honest turkey hunter, I always seem to find myself drifting toward scouting for whitetails during turkey season.
One of my favorite layers of irony to unpack with that statement is the fact that I can happily pull off all-day whitetail sits in November, deer or no deer, consecutive days in a row, but the second the turkeys stop talking, I get antsy and feel the need to explore.
