Pennsylvania’s Carbon County land deal brings hunting land access concerns

Dave Gustafson, the Pennsylvania Game Commission's deputy executive director, said the matter is an “exchange” of land with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources that will not result in a loss for the Game Commission, or hunters. A high ranking official with the Pennsylvania Game Commission promised that hunters won’t lose out in a potential land deal with another state agency.

According to a Feb. 5 newsletter from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget proposal includes $5 million to expand state parks. Among the expansion, according to the newsletter, is the “transfer” of 391 acres in Carbon County from the Game Commission to DCNR’s Lehigh Gorge State Park.
