Highly pathogenic avian influenza – often referred to as HPAI – recently was confirmed in American crows in Allegheny County, adding to the number of cases surfacing across Pennsylvania.
About 50 dead crows were found on and alongside railroad tracks in the city of Pittsburgh at the end of January and reported to the Pennsylvania Game Commission. As part of its field investigation, the agency swabbed three of the crows, which were confirmed to have the highly contagious, deadly disease.
