Three reasons winter is the most valuable time you can spend in the deer woods during the offseason

Typical winter scouting efforts involve heading out for a walk to look for last season’s sign, primarily rubs. But the benefits of winter scouting extend much deeper than that. (Contributed photos)

Whitetail season, even the opener of the archery season, is months away. Now is the time for ice fishing, shed hunting, and, soon enough, turkey scouting. There’s also the opportunity to figure out last year’s buck movements, and to make some plans for this year.
