Highly pathogenic avian influenza cases among wild birds continue to mount in Pennsylvania, and the list includes several ducks harvested by hunters.
As of Feb. 16, the most recent cases to be confirmed in wild birds were three geese found dead on Jan. 25 in Columbia County. Since the fall migration began last year – which is a time that influenza cases often increase – five of the nine wild bird cases detected in that time period resulted from ducks harvested by hunters.

Drought had a terrible grip on the prairies of the Dakotas and Canada. Goose harvest quotas were driven by annual production estimates along the Hudson Bay lowlands of Manitoba and southern James Bay in Ontario.
