Michigan legislation would require COs to use body cameras, search warrants

Currently, Michigan conservation officers do not need a search warrant to enter private property. A bill introduced by Dave Prestin (R-Cedar River) would update warrant requirements for the department, requiring COs to obtain a search warrant before entering private property, under most cases. State representatives Greg Markkanen (R-Hancock) and Dave Prestin (R-Cedar River) have introduced two bills that would affect the way the Michigan DNR’s Law Enforcement Division does business.
The bill introduced by Markkanen would require conservation officers to wear body cameras when conducting official business. The bill introduced by Prestin would update warrant requirements for accessing private property.
