Sometimes men are foolish. In November I was one of those foolish men. This isn’t your typical deer hunting story. There’s no big buck or hardly any deer involved. But it is a story of survival at a basic level.
Fish, fish, fish.
For several summers, that’s about all my son and I did.
Mornings and evenings and weekends, we’d be on the water, chasing bass. He’d ask to go walleye fishing. I’d remind him, “We’re bass fishermen,” and go about my business. Certainly, we’d take advantage of seasonal spikes in activity. Then, youth sports started in earnest.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I asked readers to check in here at the Wisconsin Outdoor News world headquarters if they’ve been reading the paper for our full 31 years of existence, or 25 years or more, but I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised at the response. I’ve really enjoyed emailing and talking to some of our long-time readers over the past two weeks. What a blast. I wish I’d have done this sooner. Let’s meet some of these characters.
