DNR closes the roadway twice a year to help with safe crossing for dozens of species of snakes and amphibians in the Shawnee National Forest who migrate from the limestone bluffs to LaRue Swamp and back again. The 2.5-mile-long road was originally scheduled to be closed through Oct.
