Fishing tournament changes could be coming to Ohio in ’25

Fishing tournaments are growing in popularity, with Ohio Division of Wildlife Inland Fisheries Administrator Rich Zweifel estimating 2,500 to 3,000 are held in Ohio each year. (File photo by Bill Key)

New regulations governing certain fishing tournaments in Ohio may be on the horizon if the Ohio Division of Wildlife gets its way.
Division of Wildlife Inland Fisheries Administrator Rich Zweifel told state wildlife council members in July the division will seek additions to the Ohio Administrative Code in the next year to officially define a fishing “tournament” – as opposed to a fishing “derby” or other similar activities.
