Ernesto Amparan has been fishing Lake Michigan since he was just a tiny tot – yet despite ongoing jokes about Chicago shorelines, he’s never come across a dead body.
He’d never seen a sturgeon, either.
The facts intertwined in early July when Amparan, while captaining a Thin Blue Line Fishing tour that was toiling on the lake somewhere between Evanston and Wilmette, spotted a large floating object. A retired Chicago police officer, Amparan was quick to call and report the unknown item to authorities.
