Ohio Mixed Bag: Whitetails Unlimited donates nearly half million to Ohio conservation-related projects

Whitetails Unlimited (WTU) has granted $472,833 to various mission related projects in the state of Ohio over the past fiscal year. More than 150 different organizations received grants pertaining to outdoor education, habitat enhancement, and hunting and shooting sports preservation. This was done in large part with the help of Whitetails Unlimited’s 40 Ohio chapters.

Ohio Insider: Is the walleye worthy of being the official state fish?

As I write this column, an effort was underway at the Ohio Statehouse to recognize the walleye as the official state fish.
As I understand it, Ohio is one of only three states in the union that doesn’t yet have an officially named state fish. The other two are Indiana and Iowa.
My question is: Is it really necessary to deem the walleye the official Ohio fish or is some other species more worthy?

Acme Dam great little place to catch big bass in Pennsylvania’s Westmoreland County

Shoving off in my canoe, we circled Acme Dam clockwise, tossing soft plastic lures – worms mostly – and letting them sink to the bottom.
That never takes long in most spots. This 24-acre lake that serves as the centerpiece of Chestnut Ridge Park in Westmoreland County is only about 3.5 feet deep, on average. But on this night, they never even got down that far. Largemouth bass kept intercepting them first.
