New York prepares for summer harmful algal blooms

In cooperation with its partners, New York DEC monitors hundreds of waterbodies annually and works with DOH and OPRHP to ensure the public and environment are protected. (Stock photo)

As the summer season fully approaches, officials from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the State Department of Health are encouraging the public, especially those who are regularly around waterbodies, to learn about and be aware of harmful algal blooms, or “HABs,” as they have become known.
