Illinois DNR taps double cicada emergence to inspire state’s artists

With two broods of cicadas emerging in Illinois, DNR has decided to let people from around the state share their experiences with the insects thought art. (Photo courtesy of Bill Key)

DNR is hosting a cicada-themed art show during the Illinois State Fair. An audio track to support the show shouldn’t be hard to capture.
“Screams” from cicadas should be evident soon, as Illinois is the epicenter of a rare double cicada brood emergence this summer. DNR wants to commemorate the occasion with a public art show in Conservation World during the 2024 Illinois State Fair, which takes place Aug. 8-18.
