During Wisconsin’s 2023 CWD reporting year, April 1, 2023, through March 31, the DNR reports that 17,329 wild deer were tested and 1,586 were found to be CWD positive.
This compares to 2022, when 17,206 deer were sampled and 1,492 tested positive. Erin Larson, DNR deer health specialist, gave the report to the Natural Resources Board, saying that for the first-time wild deer in Polk, Trempealeau, Jackson, and Waushara counties tested positive for CWD.
