New York DEC holds black bass meeting, preliminary talks focus on St. Lawrence, east Ontario

An ongoing topic of discussion regarding bass fishing in New York is the fact that along with St. Lawrence County; Jefferson, Franklin and Hamilton counties do not allow catch-and-release bass fishing between Dec. 1 and June 14, while it is allowed with artificial lures only in most of the remainder of New York. On March 14, the fisheries staff of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation held a public meeting in Alexandria Bay to discuss the status of Lake Ontario’s Eastern Basin and the St. Lawrence River black bass population.
Approximately 60 people attended the meeting where fisheries biologists provided an update on the black bass population.
