Minnesota officials seeking answers to Lake Traverse fish kill

The Minnesota DNR confirmed a large fish kill that occurred on Lake Traverse in mid-March, resulting in the death of thousands of fish. The majority were drum, but many other species also died. Tests are still coming back to officially determine the cause, but Chris Domeier, DNR Ortonville area fisheries supervisor, said he believes part of the cause comes from very high oxygen levels. Lake Traverse, straddling the border of South Dakota and Minnesota, experienced a significant fish kill discovered March 14, that resulted in the death of thousands of fish. Tests are ongoing to pinpoint the exact cause of the die-off, but, according to Chris Domeier, Minnesota DNR Ortonville area fisheries supervisor, the lake exhibited high oxygen levels throughout the winter.
