Minnesota becomes the 20th state with an outdoor recreation office

The state of Minnesota has seen an increase during the past five years in terms of outdoor recreation economy. In 2017, the state brought in $9.2 billion via outdoor rec, and that increased to $11.7 billion in 2022. Source: Bureau of Economic Analysis. (Graphic by Brian Mozey)

The Minnesota Outdoor Recreation Industry Partnership (ORIP) is nearly halfway through its first year of formation. Randolph Briley, the state’s deputy director of outdoor recreation, is focused on laying the foundation and building up for future opportunities in the coming years.
