Seven or eight years ago – after decades of trying – I decided to stop attempting to convince readers and leaders that the Game and Fish & Boat commissions should be merged, because having separate agencies is wasteful and expensive.
Pennsylvania is the only state in the country to manage fish, wildlife and natural resources this way – and the redundancies and inefficiencies are obvious – but since the Game Commission started raking in millions of dollars in shale gas receipts from beneath state game lands, it has seemed like a frivolous argument to make.
