It’s a great winter to try the southeast Minnesota trout option

Forget about the early and late hours if you try your hand at winter trout fishing. Instead, focus your efforts on the middle of the day when water temperatures have a chance to warm a bit. Sunny days generally create more action-packed fishing. (Contributed photo)

Down in the bottom-right-hand corner of Minnesota, some 700 miles of trout streams flow through the valleys between bluffs. They range from oversized trickles to wade-with-caution rivers. Finning in those cool, clear streams are brook trout, brown trout, and, often, rainbows.
Many of the best streams are open for business right now, which is an outdoor opportunity that might be one of the most underappreciated in our state.
