Commentary: Separate public and private-land antlerless “tags” should be part of Pennsylvania deer management

The author writes that Pennsylvania's current approach when issuing antlerless tags does little to reduce the growing numbers of deer on the private, restricted-access areas while at the same time overharvesting deer on the public land within management units. (Stock photo by Mark Nale)

Those of us who have hunted deer for years in Pennsylvania recall when antlerless licenses were allocated on a county basis. We also remember being told that the Game Commission could do a much better job of wildlife management if the state were divided into individual management units.
