Minnesota Deer harvest is down 13% after opening weekend

While Minnesota’s firearms deer hunters weren’t wildly successful in harvesting deer during the firearms opener last weekend, favorable weather could help them catch up. (Stock photo)

If there’s a bright spot in firearms deer harvest in Minnesota, it’s yet to shine. Following the opening weekend of the anticipated season, state DNR officials say the deer kill was 13% off last year’s pace, with a total take of 47,370 deer on Saturday and Sunday.
