A river’s appeal: A Q&A with Minnesota fishing guide Darren Troseth

Darren Troseth has been fishing for 20 years and has been a fishing guide for the past six years. He typically guides on the Minnesota, Mississippi, and St. Croix rivers.
Troseth said he doesn’t look at being a guide as a job, but rather an opportunity to meet some fun people, create fun memories, and be on the water for part of the day. Troseth said he wants people to understand the beauty of river fishing while understanding the risks of it, too. Outdoor News sat down with Troseth to go through some topics.

One day showcases what Pennsylvania’s outdoor scene has to offer

I sense that even those of us who indulge in Pennsylvania’s outdoor assets sometimes forget how varied, appealing, and welcoming our woods and waters are. A recent day of mild adventure proved the Office of Outdoor Recreation has a lot to work with – a great story to tell.

Brook trout thrive in Iowa’s South Pine Creek

South Pine Creek is a small, cold, high-quality stream flowing through a prairie-lined valley on the South Pine Wildlife Area in northeast Winneshiek County. The consistently cold stream temperatures, heavily influenced by groundwater, has allowed brook trout to survive.
