As squirrel hunting openers go, the surprise this year was the lack of discomfort Lance Poole felt as he plopped his behind on a moss-covered stump in the bottoms of Monroe County, Ill., on Aug. 1.
It took exactly 11 minutes of sitting perfectly still before Poole heard some rapid rustling in a treetop not 30 yards to his east. His reaction: Identify. Point. Aim. Bang.
