Acquiring antlerless hunting license in Pennsylvania turned out to be slow and difficult

The morning of June 26, I signed on to my Hunt Pa. internet account at 7:52 a.m. There was a nice countdown to the 8 o’clock start, when we hunters could begin the process of typing personal information, selecting various hunting licenses — plus our antlerless wildlife management unit destination.
We expected to be able to submit the license choices, pay for the complete transaction and then print the whole works.

Public invited to learn about the future of lake management at Iowa’s Prairie Lakes Conference

Registration is now underway for the 2023 Prairie Lakes Conference (PLC) set for Aug. 9-11 at Okoboji, Iowa.

The PLC, which originated in 2016, is put together annually by conservation professionals and is an invitation for fellow professionals, students and interested members of the public to join together to learn about soil health, water quality and the connections between the two.

Does a perch, if required, hold its breath?

Fish, like us and all other animals, use oxygen, which they get from the water via their gills. It would be pretty interesting if we could dive under the surface and continue breathing. Actually, we have a term for what would happen: drowning.
We have spent many years fishing together, mostly on Lake Winnibigoshish and Leech Lake, often targeting yellow perch, because they’re pretty darn good eating. We recently considered a scientific paper about perch, which showed that they are interesting and deliciously edible.
