Roger Strand, a “gentleman’s gentleman” whose decades of conservation work on behalf of wood ducks and other waterfowl, informed and inspired countless kids and adults alike across Minnesota and the United States, died peacefully in his sleep June 6, 2023 at Bethesda North Pointe in New London, Minn. He was 87.
A renowned surgeon by occupation, Strand was a conservationist at heart, a hunter and teacher and citizen scientist who had, his friends say, a seemingly insatiable appetite for nature and teaching people about it.
