On April 14, the Minnesota DNR commissioner, Sarah Strommen, and director of the Division of Fish and Wildlife, Dave Olfelt, distributed a letter to field staff titled “Forest Management.” The letter was unusual, because it wasn’t on DNR letterhead, and the point of the letter and the reason staff from the divisions of Fish and Wildlife, Forestry, and Ecological and Water Resources received it was not in the letter. Staff likely scratched their heads and asked, “What’s this about?”
