Owners of dog shot by hunter in Pennsylvania want to sue

Hunter, a 90-pound Malamute-mix, was shot on a trail near his owners’ rural home not far from Lake Ontelaunee. He died on the way to an emergency veterinary clinic. (Contributed photo)
When the Pennsylvania Game Commission declined to cite a hunter who had mistaken their pet dog for a coyote – fatally shooting it on its morning walk Jan. 7 – Jennifer and Chris Heller turned to social media. Vowing to sue, the couple, of Hamburg, Berks County, met with an attorney, established a Justice for Hunter Go Fund Me page to cover the cost of legal fees, they said, and, within days, had raised more than $16,000. The hunter has not been charged in the incident.
