Michigan’s Mixed Bag: Share your thoughts with the DNR at upcoming meetings

Lansing — The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says it committed to providing Michigan residents the opportunity to share input and ideas on policy decisions, programs and other aspects of natural resource management and outdoor recreation opportunities.

One important avenue for this input is at meetings of the public bodies that advise the DNR and, in some cases, also set policies for natural and cultural resource management.

Frequently check the DNR boards, commissions, committees and councils webpage for updates.

A couple such meetings remain this month:

• Lake Huron Citizens Fishery Advisory Committee – Tuesday, Jan. 31, 10 a.m. Contact Randy Claramunt (231) 622-3820 for info.

• Underwater Salvage and Preserve Committee – Tuesday, Jan. 31, 1 p.m. Contact Sheri Giffin (517) 231-1299 for info.

Great Lakes Fishery Commission Announces New Journal

Ann Arbor, Mich. — The Great Lakes Fishery Commission (GLFC) is pleased to announce its new journal Laurentian, which replaces three historically separate, irregularly published journals: Technical Report, Special Publication, and Miscellaneous Publication.

Science Director Dr. Andrew Muir hopes “that a refreshed look, format, and style will make this publication consistent with the standards of the day and that efforts to broaden content will enhance the profile of GLFC-supported science and programs.”

Laurentian will be published online (www.glfc.org/pubs/laurentian/2022-01.pdf) and in-print following American Fisheries Society publication guidelines and will be citation indexed by ProQuest.

Laurentian will serve as an outlet for publication of interdisciplinary review and synthesis papers; narrowly focused material with special relevance to a single but important aspect of the GLFC’s mandate under the Convention on Great Lakes Fisheries; and scientific reports from committees that work under the umbrella of the GLFC.

In addition, relevant papers that do not fit the format of mainstream journals, will be considered for publication.
