Guys Mills, Pa. — Erie National Wildlife Refuge in northwestern Pennsylvania will see a gradual phase-out of lead ammunition and fishing tackle under a recent court order from a federal judge.
“A lot of owls have been reported in a wide band (moving south) from the Canadian Prairies through the Dakotas, Great Lakes, Ottawa River/St. Lawrence valley and parts of northern New England,” Scott Weidensaul, co-founder of Project SNOWStorm, wrote on the organization’s blog.
Most fishing is taking place in 22 to 28 feet of water. Some reports of decent walleye fishing shallower as well, in the 18 to 21 depths but not as many fish or variety of fish.
Depths of 8-15 feet in relation to outside edges of weeds are prime locations to find hungry pike.
There hasn’t been much fishing activity, at least not as much as there could have been if lake conditions remained favorable and ice would have continued building.
