Why the zones? DNR explains new pike regs

The new northern pike fishing regulations, which were announced recently and go into effect on the May 12 fishing opener, have three distinct zones. Each of the zones – north-central, northeast and south – provide protection for different sizes of pike, and there are reasons for those differences, the DNR said in a news release

Biologist says Selkirk mountain caribou herd may be extinct

SPOKANE, Wash. — A biologist says the south Selkirk mountain caribou herd may be extinct after aerial surveys found only three remaining animals. Bart George, wildlife biologist for the Kalispel Tribe, says two aerial surveys in March found only three female caribou. Last year there were about a dozen of the endangered animals.
