Metro Area Fishing Report – May 20th, 2016
Walleyes are hitting jigs and minnows in the Prescott area of the St. Croix River in 12 to 16 feet. Bass are hitting plastics in shallow water on Lake Demontreville, Powers Lake, Big Marine Lake, and Big Carnelian Lake. Toss spinnerbaits in the 5- to 7-foot weeds for northern pike on Green Lake, Lake Peltier, White Bear Lake, and Big Carnelian. Crappies and sunfish remain active in 4 to 6 feet on Demontreville and Silver Lake.

Some walleyes are being found shallow and others are as deep as 20 feet on area lakes. Lotus Lake is kicking out decent numbers of walleyes, just out from the access. Bass fishing has been good on Lake Wasserman and Lake Minnewashta, while a few crappies are coming from Whaletail Lake in 10 feet. Look to Ann Lake and Steiger Lake for bass and pike in less than 8 feet.

Crankbaits are producing walleyes during low-light periods in 6 to 10 feet near the Carp Trap, Rock Dock, and Claybanks areas. During the day, a jig and minnow has worked best in 15 feet on Kegg’s Reef and Harm’s Point. Look for crappies over 16 feet in Waconia Bay. Bass and sunfish continue to be found along the shorelines.
