Michigan man fined after false license app statement

Remsen, N.Y. — A Michigan man was fined $700 for offering up a false statement in applying for a hunting license and then illegally killing a deer last fall.

Douglas M. Nosewicz, 47, of Portage, Mich., was fined in connection with an Oct. 18, 2014 incident in Remsen (Oneida County).

A co-defendant, Marcus Thompson, 47, of Kalamazoo, Mich., was fined for hunting big game without a license.

In other cases:

• Steven. E. Storozuk, 23, of Newton Falls, was fined $550 plus a $225 court surcharge for illegally taking a black bear during closed season, illegal possession of protected wildlife, and hunting without a license. Storozuk was cited following a May 21 incident in Clifton (St. Lawrence County).

• James W. Szwejk, 64, of Vernon, was fined $375 plus a $75 court surcharge for failure to obey a DEC regulation. The citation stemmed from an April 18 incident in Vernon (Oneida County.

• Richard B. Diffendorf, Sr., 39, of Kirkwood, fines $650 plus a $75 court surcharge for discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Diffendorf was cited in connection with a Nov. 20, 2014 incident in Kirkwood (Broome County).

• Kring W. Marriam, 49, of Watertown, fined $500 for possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and discharging a firearm from a public highway. Marrian was cited in connection with a Dec. 2, 2014 incident in the town of Orleans (St. Lawrence County)

• Jonathon E. Rice, 23, of Auburn, fined $275 plus a $150 court surcharge for guiding without a DEC license in connection with a Jan. 2 incident in the town of Fleming (Cayuga County).

• Jerrett M. Wheeler, 28, of Pulaski, fined $750 for killing a deer after sunset, placing a salt lick on lands inhabited by deer, killing an antlerless deer without a permit, and taking a deer with the aid of bait. Wheeler was cited following a Nov. 24, 2014 incident in the town of Richland (Oswego County).

• Richard D. Newcomb, 57, of Pulaski, fined $500 for taking wildlife from a public highway and discharging a firearm over a public highway. Newcomb was cited in connection with a Nov. 18, 2014 incident in the town of Richland (Oswego County).

• Jason J. Tredway, 28, of Mt. Vision, fined $500 for taking an illegal deer and taking a deer with an illegal implement. Tredway was cited following a Nov. 8, 2014 incident in the town of Smyrna (Chenango County).

• Ethan G. Peck, 25, of Harrisville, fined $750 for possession of a loaded gun in a motor vehicle, improper transfer of a Deer Management Permit, and taking wildlife from a public highway. Peck was cited following a Dec. 6, 2014 incident in the town of Lebanon (Madison County).

• Brandon E. Hoffert, 30, of Castorland, fined $700 for possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm from/across a public highway, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. The citations stem from a Nov. 6, 2014 incident in the town of Lebanon (Madison County).

• Jay H. Duger, 52, of Mannsville, fined $400 plus a $300 court surcharge for taking fish by means other than angling and taking fish by spear in non-permitted waters. Duger was cited following a July 8, 2014 incident in the town of Henderson (Jefferson County).

• Willie G. Clark, 53, of Utica, fined $350 plus a $150 court surcharge for possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and hunting deer without a big game license. Clark was cited following a Nov. 27, 2014 incident in the town of Schuyler (Herkimer County).

• Scott W. Scanlon, 51, of Norfolk, fined $450 for possession of an untagged doe and possession of an illegal deer. Scanlon was cited following an Oct. 24, 2014 incident in the town of Norfolk (St. Lawrence County).

• Craig R. Caskinette, 30, of Theresa, fined $250 plus a $150 court surcharge for failure to possess a HIP number while waterfowl hunting, and possession of a shotgun capable of handling more than three shells while waterfowl hunting. The citations stem from a Nov. 2, 2014 incident in the town of Clayton (Jefferson County).

• Francis J. Figured, 55, of Ogdensburg, fined $350 plus a $75 court surcharge for no fire extinguisher on vessel, no flares on vessel, and possession of over the limit of sunfish. The charges were in connection with a Sept. 18, 2014 incident in the town of Macomb (St. Lawrence County).

• Seth M. Hamm, 29, of Norwood, fined $1,000 for taking big game during closed season and taking big game except as permitted. Hamm was cited in connection with a Dec. 19, 2014 incident in the town of Potsdam (St. Lawrence County).
