Finger Lakes/Southern Tier Fishing Report – July 10th, 2015

Cayuga Lake: Use caution when boating and watch for debris. Lake trout were being taken by trolling spoons or jigging with plastics in 50 to 75 feet of water.

Seneca Lake: A lot of floating debris, so use caution when you’re out there. Lake trout were still being taken by anglers trolling or jigging in 50 to 150 feet of water.

Canandaigua Lake: Not hearing a lot on the fishing front. But if you go watch out for floating debris.

Keuka Lake: Boaters should reduce speed and use caution. Anglers vertical jigging with plastics in 100 to 150 feet were still catching lake trout. Tubes and fluke-style plastics have been working well. Trolling was also working for anglers fishing spoons or flasher and flies in 100 to 170 feet of water.

Owasco Lake: Some lake trout were being taken on spoons trolled in the south end in 80 to 100 feet of water.

Otisco Lake: Look for bass along shore and also in and around the weedbeds. Try stickworms (Senko-style baits), crankbaits and chatterbaits along shore and over the weedbeds. Fishing in the weedbeds by pitching or flipping a bass jig or creature bait into the holes was also producing some nice bass.

Skaneateles Lake: Anglers fishing along shore were still getting a mixed bag of smallmouth bass, rock bass, yellow perch and an occasional rainbow or lake trout. For the smallmouths try topwaters, tube jigs, drop-shot rigs, crankbaits or live bait like crayfish.

Susquehanna, Chenango, Tioughnioga and Unadilla rivers: Rivers were running high and turbid after the recent rain events, so no new information. When the rivers clear, try tube jigs or crankbaits for the bass.

Whitney Point Reservoir: Recent rains have made the rivers and streams flowing into the reservoir high and turbid, thus making the reservoir turbid. When conditions clear, try crankbaits, spinnerbaits and tube jigs for the bass.
