Crab Orchard Lake: Fishing is good across the board. Crappies have moved into the shallows and can be caught on minnows and jigs. Fish are still in spawn mode. Bluegills are on the beds and can be caught on a variety of baits. Catfish action has been good on cut bait. Bass are also good on a variety of baits. Fish are being caught over shallow cover.
Devils Kitchen: Bluegills are still on the beds and can be caught on wax worms, meal worms, crickets and red wigglers.
Little Grassy: Crappies are in spawn mode. Fish are being caught over shallow cover on minnows and jigs. Bluegills are on the beds and are being caught in good numbers on crickets. Bass are holding in shallow cover and on being caught on a variety of baits. Catfish are rated good to excellent on cut bait.
Lake Murphysboro: Anglers are taking good-sized bluegills and redears. Fish are still not on the beds, and action has been spotty. Wax worms, meal worms and crickets have all produced nice fish. Crappie action is still fair. Some anglers are taking good fish in shallow cover on minnows and jigs. Catfish are rated fair to good in the late afternoon and evening. Nightcrawlers, chicken livers and shad are all producing good fish. Bass action is spotty.
Carlyle Lake: Crappies remain excellent around shallow cover. Fish are being caught in 18 inches of water on minnows and jigs. Catfish also remain very good in the lake on nightcrawlers, cut shad and stinkbaits. Bluegills are rated good on crickets and red wigglers fished around shallow brush. In the spillway, white bass action is very good near the old river bed on jigs and minnows. Catfish action is steady on nightcrawlers and shad gut. Crappies are good in the river on minnows and jigs.
Kinkaid Lake: Some crappie anglers are still taking fish in shallow cover. Minnows and jigs are both effective. Some females are still holding eggs. Bluegills are being caught in good numbers. Some fish are still in pre-spawn mode. Most bluegills are running small. Bass anglers are reporting good catches on topwater baits. Some catfish anglers are reporting good catches. Fish are still scattered. The anglers taking cats are reporting good success on nightcrawlers, stinkbaits, chicken liver and shad.
Lake of Egypt: Bass action is still good. Bass anglers are reporting success on spinner baits, soft plastics and jigs. Fish are holding in shallow cover on calm days, deeper on windy days. Bluegills and redear fishing has improved during the past week. Some bluegills are on the beds. Anglers are catching good numbers of fish on wax worms and crickets. Crappie anglers are reporting good success in 14-20 feet of water. The bigger fish seem to be holding deeper. Jigs are best bet. Catfish action is slow.
Rend Lake: Crappies are rated excellent on quarter-ounce pink and white jigs and minnows. Crappies are holding at about two feet deep in flooded buck brush and slightly deeper around brush piles. Catfish are also rated excellent on stinkbaits, shad gut, nightcrawlers, shrimp and leeches. Shallow necks and creek mouths have been the hot spots. Bluegills are good in shallow areas and around the sailboat harbor on crickets, wax worms, red wigglers and meal worms. Bass anglers are reporting success on soft plastics and jigs fished around shallow cover and bushes. Anglers are focusing on Jackie Branch and Sandusky cove. White bass have been caught around bridges.
