Bobcat hunting measure gets Senate approval

But the road to a bobcat season in Illinois is not completely without obstacle.

Senators voted 32-17 in approval of House Bill 352, legislation sponsored by Sen. Sam McCann, R-Carlinville. The measure proposes a bobcat season between Nov. 1 and Feb. 15. It also puts a limit of one bobcat per person, per season. HB 352 also requires DNR to sell special bobcat permits for each season at a cost of no more than $5.

Now, the only thing standing between hunters and trappers and a bobcat season is another stamp of approval by the House. Because the bill's language was changed in the Senate, it must return to the House for another vote. If the House approves it between now and the end of the spring session, the bill will go to Gov. Bruce Rauner for his signature.

Similar legislation went to former Gov. Pat Quinn, vetoed it before leaving office in January.
