Northwest Minnesota Fishing Report – June 27th, 2014


Walleyes are hitting crawlers and spinner rigs on Lake Reno and Lake Mary in 12 to 15 feet and on Lake Miltona 18 to 20 feet. The weedlines on Lake Le Homme Dieu, Lake Geneva, and Lake Carlos are kicking out walleyes as well. Work the pencil reeds on Reno or six to 10 feet on lakes Darling, Le Homme Dieu, and Ida for crappies.

Walleyes are hitting leeches or crawlers in 10 to 15 feet on Otter Tail Lake and 25 to 30 feet at West Battle Lake. Sucker minnows or spoons are producing northern pike on the 15- to 18-foot weedlines of Donald Lake, Fiske Lake, and Clitherall Lake, while spinnerbaits are turning bass in five to 10 feet on East Battle Lake, Elbow Lake, and South Turtle Lake. Panfish action remains strong in five to seven feet at Bass Lake by Underwood, Clitherall, and West Battle.

Drifting or trolling crawlers and leeches in 12 to 18 feet has produced walleyes at lakes Sallie, Melissa, Big Detroit, Deadshot Bay, Pelican, and Big Cormorant. Bass and northern pike are hitting on the established weedlines of most lakes, while panfish are roaming the shorelines out to 12 feet on Severson Lake, Cotton Lake, Big Detroit, Sallie, Little Detroit Lake, Sour Lake, and Little Detroit Lake.

Walleyes are hitting leeches, crawlers, and some minnows in 20 to 22 feet at Potato Lake and Fish Hook Lake. Look to Potato for smallmouth bass as well, sunfish are biting at Big Toad Lake in 12 feet, and Big Mantrap Lake is kicking out crappies in 12 to 16 feet. The Crow Wing Chain is a safe bet for panfish in 14 to 16 feet and largemouth bass are an easy catch along the 12- to 14-foot weeds of Lake Belle Taine and Straight Lake.

Walleyes are hitting a jig and shiner in six to eight feet or crawlers and Lindy rigs in 14 to 17 feet on Big Pine Lake. On Rush Lake and Little Pine Lake, crankbaits are triggering walleyes in six to eight feet. Look for bluegills on the 13- to 15-foot weedlines of Lake Marion, Star Lake, Dead Lake, and Little McDonald Lake. Power Bait is working best for suspended rainbow trout on Bad Medicine Lake.
