Lake Erie Region Fishing Report – June 6th, 2014

• The daily bag limit for walleye on Ohio waters of Lake Erie is 6 fish per angler. The minimum size limit for walleye is 15 inches.
• The daily bag limit for yellow perch is 30 fish per angler on all Ohio waters of Lake Erie.
• The trout and salmon daily bag limit is 2 fish per angler through May 15. From May 16 through Aug. 31 the daily bag limit increases to 5 fish per angler. The minimum size limit is 12 inches.
• Black bass (largemouth and smallmouth bass): May 1 through June 27 is closed to possession (catch and release only). On June 28, the daily bag limit returns to 5 fish per angler with a 14 inch minimum size limit. 


Where: Trolling anglers are catching fish around the Bass Islands and around Kelleys Island. Anglers jigging are still catching fish on the reefs of the Camp Perry firing range and in Maumee Bay.
How: Anglers trolling have caught fish using deep diving crankbaits such as Rapala Deep Husky Jerks and Reef Runners, and are also catching fish with worm harnesses using inline weights or bottom bouncers. Hair jigs tipped with emerald shiners are the most popular jigging lures.

Smallmouth Bass

Where: Are being caught around island shorelines in less than 20 feet of water.
How: Try using tube jigs, crankbaits, or jerkbaits.

Largemouth bass

Where: Are being caught in harbors and bays in the western basin.
How: Use crankbaits, spinner baits, and soft plastics.
The Lake Erie water temperature was 57 off Toledo and 49 off Cleveland, according to the nearshore marine forecast.
