Central Illinois Fishing Report – March 21st, 2014
Sangchris Lake: Bass are good on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. Catfish have picked up on shad and liver. Soe being caught on dough baits. Crappies are good on jigs fairly shallow along rocks near dam. Some bluegills being caught in shallows.
Lake Bloomington: Good crappie action on shallow brush using jigs. Bass and bluegills are improving, with bass hitting spinners and crankbaits. Catfish biting on stinkbaits and nightcrawlers. Fish deep off shore.
Newton Lake: Bass fishing is still very good. Bass are taking zoom worms or crankbaits. Some plastics working, also. Catfish being caught on worms, large minnows or shrimp. White bass hitting topwaters and plastics. Small spinners also seem to work well with white bass. Crappies are being caught off the shallows using minnows.
Clinton Lake: Crappies heating up on minnows near structure. Bass are good on crankbaits and spinners in coves in 6 feet. Catfish are good on worms, cut shad, crawlers and shrimp. Walleye fishing is improving, with anglers pulling some in on jigs and minnows. White bass are slow, with a few being caught on roadrunners, spinners and twisters.
Lake Jacksonville: Bass fishing is finally starting to heat up on this popular Morgan County lake. The largemouths are hitting spinners, with a few being caught on live baits like minnows and worms. Bluegill anglers having good luck on worms. Catfish being caught on worms and dough baits.
Evergreen Lake: Crappies continue biting on minnows floated under a bobber about midway in water ranging from 8-12 feet. Boat fishermen have reported catching crappies while they drift in deeper water. Saugeyes good on live baits. Bass fishing has started to pick up, most being caught in evenings on spinners and plastics. A few nice catfish starting to bite on shad and stinkbaits.
Lake Springfield: Largemouths being caught on spinners, and even a few on live minnows. White bass are hitting crazy blades in the hot ditch areas. A few still being caught on the south end of the lake on rooster tails. Crappies good on minnows and jigs near structure. Bluegills being caught on worms. Some catfish starting to bite, especially flatheads in shallow water in evening. The cats are biting mostly on liver.
Lake Shelbyville: White bass picking up on blades Crappies improving on minnows and jogs. Saugers are biting below the spillway.
