Metro Area Fishing Report – February 21st, 2014


On Lake Minnetonka, Carson’s Bay, Black Lake, and North Arm are producing sunfish in 20 to 25 feet. Lake Sarah is worth hitting for sunfish in 18 to 20 feet. Look for suspended crappies over 25 to 35 feet on Lake Independence. A few pike can be had with tip-ups and suckers in 16 feet on Minnetonka.

Northern pike and sunfish are hitting in 10 to 15 feet on Big Marine Lake and Demontreville Lake. The Bell Air Beach area on White Bear Lake is kicking out sunfish in 10 to 13 feet. Crappies continue to be caught on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix River, across from Bayport, in 30 to 40 feet.

Tip-ups and sucker minnows are producing northern pike at Lake Zumbra, Lake Auburn, and Lake Minnewashta in 12 to 16 feet. Look to Hydes Lake in 14 to 16 feet for crappies during the evening hours. Sunfish and walleye reports have been limited.

Crappies are suspended and active during the evening over 18 to 25 feet in Wagener’s Bay. Sucker minnows continue to produce northern pike on the weedlines in Waconia Bay or in 10 to 14 feet on Center Reef and Pillsbury Reef. These areas also are giving up panfish early and late each day in 12 to 14 feet.

Maple Lake, Clearwater Lake, and Lake John are giving up sunfish in 14 to 20 feet. On Pleasant Lake, crappies and sunfish are hitting during low-light periods in 18 to 24 feet. You’ll also find crappies suspended over 30 feet or more on Clearwater and Pleasant. Walleye reports have been limited, but pike are hitting sucker minnows in 12 to 16 feet at Clearwater, Cedar Lake, and Lake Sylvia.

Crappies and sunfish are in six to nine feet on Chisago Lake and South Lindstrom Lake. You’ll also catch panfish and a few walleyes in 18 to 24 feet on South Lindstrom. Anglers are catching a mixed bag of panfish in nine to 18 feet on Little Lake, while the Doctor’s Island area of North Center Lake is producing northern pike in six to 15 feet.
