Big moves at Illinois DNR: Turkey biologist exits, deputy director takes ICF lead

Ralph LoosPaul Brewer, who became the state turkey biologist in 2010, surprised the DNR administration by announcing his retirement. A 30-year veteran of the agency, Brewer had contributed greatly to the turkey program, which one of the few bright spots on the Illinois outdoor scene.

Meanwhile, in a another surprise move, DNR Director Marc Miller tabbed one of his deputies to head the Illinois Conservation Foundation. Travis Loyd, a native of southern Illinois, has been deputy director since 2010. He replaces Mark Spangler as executive director of ICF. Spangler left in May 2013 after Miller did not renew his contract.
