DULUTH AREA

Early this week, a few of the small lakes were partially covered with skim ice but most were completely open. Hunters continue to comment that deer numbers are down, evident by the lack of deer being seen and shot so far this season.

GRAND MARAIS AREA

A couple of small lakes and wind-protected bays are covered with ice, while most big lakes remained open. Those areas that were covered could be favorable for foot travel after the next cold stretch. Deer hunters didn’t shoot as many deer over the second weekend as opening weekend, but they have shot a few more bigger bucks, highlighted by a 254-pound buck with a 25-inch rack.
