Upper Peninsula Fishing Report – November 8th, 2013

Pickford Area

Fishing pressure has been light, but the walleye bite has been very good in Munuscong Bay. A few muskies have been caught, too. Perch fishing has been slow in Lake Michigan around  the Les Cheneaux Islands. Deer hunting has been good and should improve now that bucks are showing an interest in does. The bear season was fair. Grouse hunting has been fair. Waterfowl hunting has been good, and flight birds are passing through.

Curtis Area

Walleye fishing has been very good on Big and South Manistique lakes, but fishing pressure has been very light. Fair numbers of perch have been caught on Big Manistique. Deer hunting has been fair, but action should improve as bucks are starting to move. Grouse hunting has been slow, but the leaves are falling. Waterfowl hunting has been decent.

Garden Area

Smallies are hitting sucker minnows in Big Bay de Noc off Garden Bluff and Burnt Bluff. Fish up to 5 pounds have been caught. Perch fishing has been slow, but should improve any day. Grouse hunting has been slow. Waterfowl hunting has been very good with flight ducks moving through on a regular basis. Archery deer hunting is heating up, and bucks are on the move.

Escanaba Area

Walleye fishing has been slow and perch action also has slowed in Lake Michigan’s Little Bay de Noc. Grouse hunting has fair, but waterfowl hunting has been very good, with flight ducks moving through. Action is picking up for archery deer hunters. Bucks are on the move and young bucks are chasing does.

Iron Mountain Area

Fishing pressure has been light in Dickinson County. A few muskies have been caught on local waters. Grouse hunting has been fair, but duck and goose hunting has been slow. Archery deer season has been good, and bucks are scraping.

Bergland Area

Walleye fishing has been decent off shore on Lake Gogebic with sucker minnows and crankbaits both producing fish. Most of the boats have been wrapped up for the year. Grouse hunting remains pretty good. Leaves are down, but hunting pressure has been light. Bowhunting also has been quiet and hunting pressure light. Deer numbers are down. Bucks are getting antsy and starting to scrape.

Keweenaw Peninsula

Splake are being caught in Lake Superior’s Copper Harbor, and a few lake trout also are coming to the net. Fishing pressure has been light on inland lakes. Smallmouth bass fishing has been good on Lac LaBelle and Gratiot Lake. Grouse hunting has been pretty good. Bowhunting has been fair with a couple decent bucks being taken.

Iron River Area

Muskie fishing remains pretty good on Michigamme, Peavy, and Chicagon. Grouse hunting has been good, but windy weather has put a damper on action. Early archery season has been quiet.
