Northwest Minnesota Fishing Report – August 30th, 2013

Crankbaits, jigs and minnows, or crawlers and spinners are turning walleyes on the weedlines out to 23 feet on Lake Miltona. Anglers also are plucking walleyes out of the weeds on lakes Darling, Le Homme Dieu, and Carlos. The 10- to 14-foot weedlines on most lakes are producing sunfish and you’ll want to work the deepest weeds available on all lakes for bigger bass. Muskie anglers are seeing a few fish on Miltona and Lobster Lake, but it remains difficult getting them to commit.

Suckers under bobbers are producing pike on the 12- to 14-foot weedlines of Long Lake and Fish Hook Lake. Bass can be had with plastics during low-light periods over the lily pads on Big Mantrap Lake and Lake Belle Taine. Look for sunfish in 12 to 14 feet on Straight Lake and the Crow Wing Chain and muskie anglers are seeing fish on Big Mantrap, but it’s tough getting them to bite. Rainbow trout are suspended over deep water at Long and Bad Medicine Lake.
