Muskies continue to be hooked with bucktails on the St. Louis River and on Island in six to eight feet. Hit the eight- to 10-foot weedbeds at Fish Lake for perch and bluegills. The best reports for lake trout, kings and cohos on Lake Superior are coming north of the Lester River over 150 feet of water, with most fish sitting in the top 50 feet of the water column.

Bass and northern pike action has been excellent on the Goose Lake Chain, Rush Lake, and Fish Lake. The 15- to 25-foot sandy bottom areas of Goose and Fish are producing bluegills. On the St. Croix River, catfish are hitting cut bait at night and walleyes or smallmouths can be had with spinners and crawlers. If you plan on fishing north of Rush City to Nevers Dam, plan on using a canoe. Larger boats must launch in Taylors Falls or Pine City, where water is deeper.
