Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – July 19th, 2013

Indian River

Walleye fishing has been decent on Burt and Mullett lakes, but a lot of small fish have been caught. Pike fishing has been pretty good on Mullett, and bass anglers are catching lots of fish on both lakes. Stream trout fishing has been fair, and fishing pressure has been light.

Manistee Area

Salmon fishing is heating up on Lake Michigan. The best action has been in 70 to 150 feet of water on the shelf, 60 to 70 feet down. Lakers are hitting north of Onekema in 60 to 70 feet of water, right on bottom. Several fish over 20 pounds have been caught. Bass fishing has been outstanding in Manistee Lake, and a few northern pike have been caught, too.

Cadillac Area

Northern pike fishing has been very good on lakes Cadillac and Mitchell. Walleye fishing has been pretty good on the north shore of Lake Mitchell. Leeches have produced the best action. Bass fishing has been good on both lakes, with lots of fish in the 2- to 4-pound range being caught. Panfish action has been fair.

Houghton Lake Area

Walleye fishing has been good on Houghton Lake. Leeches and crawlers fished along the weeds under slip bobbers have produced the best results. Bass and pike are hitting all over the lake, and bluegills are hitting along the first weedbeds.

Hubbard Lake Area

Walleye fishing has been good on Hubbard Lake. Crawlers and leeches have both produced good results. A few perch have been caught. Bass fishing has been good, too, but fishing pressure has been light.

Oscoda Area

Walleye fishing has been good in the Au Sable River all the way up to Foote Dam. Good numbers of perch have been caught on Van Etten Lake. Bluegills and crappies are hitting in Foote Dam Pond. A mixed bag of salmon and trout has been caught in Lake Huron in 80 to 100 feet of water, south of the river.
