Metro Area Fishing Report – July 12th, 2013
LAKE MINNETONKA AREA
On Lake Minnetonka, you’ll find sunfish on the inside weed edges and bass on the outside edges. Northern pike are hitting spinners and suckers on top of the 15- to 18-foot weeds, while walleyes are hitting floating jigs and leeches during low-light periods in 24 to 28 feet in the bigger bays such as Browns, Wayzata, and Crystal. Lake Sarah is kicking out sunfish and crappies in 12 to 15 feet, and Lake Independence is giving up walleyes in 18 feet via jigs and leeches.

On Demontreville Lake, you’ll find bass in the slop and on the weedlines, or crappies on the outside weed edges. Muskie anglers are seeing fish on Bald Eagle Lake, and you’ll pluck walleyes with minnows from 20 feet during low-light periods. Anglers fishing from shore with sucker minnows on Silver Lake are catching northern pike.

Sunfish are hitting along the 10- to 12-foot weedlines of Lake Parley and Piersons Lake. Bass action remains strong in the weeds on Steiger Lake, Lake Auburn, and Whaletail Lake. Northern pike are hitting spoons and sucker minnows on weedlines.

There’s an evening walleye bite on minnows and jigs in 12 to 15 feet on Kegg’s Reef, the south side of Cemetery Reef, and on Anderson’s Reef. Muskies are being seen on the reefs, but few have been biting. Bass are biting along the shorelines throughout the lake. Look for pike on the weed edges in 11 to 13 feet. Sunfish are shallow on the north side of the island and in the bulrushes.

Sunfish are being found along the shorelines and out to 10 feet on Clearwater Lake, Sugar Lake, and Lake Sylvia. Crawlers and leeches are producing walleyes in 10 to 24 feet on Clearwater and Cedar Lake, and spinnerbaits will turn pike on the weedlines of most lakes. Crappie action has picked up on the 12- to 15- foot weedlines of French Lake, Sylvia, and Clearwater.

Bass action has been excellent on spinnerbaits or plastics on all lakes. Sunfish have moved to the 6- to 10-foot weeds of Chisago Lake, Sunrise Lake, and South Lindstrom Lake. South Center Lake is giving up a few walleyes in 14 to 20 feet during the evening hours on leeches.
