Lake St. Clair

Walleye fishing has been pretty good on Lake St. Clair. Anglers trolling and drifting crawler harnesses off the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club and at the dumping grounds report good action. Muskie fishing has been good in front of Metro Beach, at the Belle River hump, and near the Thames River in 14 to 20 feet of water. Bass fishing has been very good all over the lake.

Pontiac Area

Catfish are hitting on Pontiac Lake. The best action has come to anglers fishing a glob of crawlers or a dead shiner right on bottom in Gale Bay. Bluegills are still bedding on most lakes in the area, especially along the southern sandy shores. Bass fishing has been pretty good on Pontiac and Cass. The fish are in their post-spawn patterns so anglers should fish slowly. Carp are spawning on a lot of lakes in the area, and bowfishers are dialing in.

Allegan Area

Bluegills are bedding on some lakes but haven’t started spawning on others. Anglers will have to explore a little to develop a pattern for the lake they are fishing. Salmon fishing has slowed on Lake Michigan. Those who are catching fish have found them in 80 feet of water or deeper. Fair numbers of perch are hitting in 60 to 80 feet of water in Lake Michigan, but anglers are having to move often to stay on the fish. River fishing has been slow on the St. Joseph. Skamania steelhead have yet to show.
