Northwest Minnesota Fishing Report – June 21st, 2013


Walleyes continue to hit leeches and minnows during low-light periods on Lake Mary in eight to 12 feet, Lake Victoria in 18 to 20 feet, and Lake Miltona in 12 to 14 feet. Look for crappies in six to eight feet on lakes Darling, Brophy, Cowdry, Carlos, and Le Homme Dieu. Bass and sunfish are sitting along the shorelines of all lakes and Miltona has given up a few muskies in shallow water.

Minnows and leeches are producing walleyes in 11 to 15 feet at Otter Tail Lake, Rush Lake, Clitherall Lake, or Silver Lake and in 15 to 20 feet on West Battle Lake. Panfish continue to be found in five to 10 feet on East Battle Lake, South Turtle Lake, West Battle, Clitherall, and Bass/Elbow Lake. Bass fishing has been best around the docks or five- to 10-foot weeds on Bass/Elbow, West Battle, East Battle, and South Turtle. Look for northern pike in 12 to 20 feet on Otter Tail, Donald Lake, West Battle, and North Turtle Lake.

Walleyes are hitting leeches and crawlers at lakes Melissa, Pelican, Sallie, Big Cormorant, and Upper Cormorant in 12 to 20 feet. Bass and pike are hitting on most lakes and crappies have moved out to 12 to 15 feet. Sunfish are moving in and out of the shallows on Melissa, Sallie, Floyd Lake, Severson Lake, and Deadshot Bay and a few muskies are being taken on Pelican and Big Detroit.

Walleyes are hitting minnows, leeches, and crawlers at Fish Hook Lake in 12 to 14 feet, Lake Belle Taine in 14 to 16 feet, Long Lake in nine to 12 feet, and Potato Lake in 12 to 16 feet. Bass and panfish continue to be found in the reeds and along the shorelines of most lakes, while muskie anglers report a lot of follows off Big Mantrap Lake.

Big Pine Lake continues to produce walleyes on a jig and shiner in six to eight feet. On Little Pine Lake and Rush Lake, walleyes are being taken on the 30-foot mud with spinners and crawlers. Bass are hitting spinnerbaits and topwater baits on the shorelines of Star Lake and Dead Lake. Sunfish have set up in the pencil reeds of Big Pine, Rush, Buchanan Lake, and Star. Northern pike are an easy catch with minnows or spinnerbaits on most lakes.
