Metro Area Fishing Report – June 21st, 2013
LAKE MINNETONKA AREA
Bass fishing has been consistent on the four- to 10-foot inside weed edges of Lake Minnetonka, Medicine Lake, and Lake Sarah. Look for crappies in the 14- to 18-foot weeds on Minnetonka and sunfish continue to be found in two to six feet on all lakes. A few walleyes are coming from 18 to 24 feet on minnows during low-light periods on Minnetonka and Lake Independence in 12 to 14 feet, while northern pike are cruising the weed tops on Minnetonka.

Hit the St. Croix River from Stillwater to Afton with minnows for walleyes and sauger, most of which are shoreline related. The weed edges of Demontreville Lake continue to produce bass and crappies, while Bald Eagle Lake is a safe bet for crappies and walleyes in 12 to 18 feet. Silver Lake is producing northern pike and tiger muskies on sucker minnows.

Sucker minnows are producing northern pike in eight to 12 feet at lakes Auburn, Steiger, Wasserman, Pierson, and Parley. Bass and sunfish are on the shorelines and docks of all lakes with some bigger fish coming off Lake Zumbra, Whaletail Lake, and Lake Bavaria.

Sunfish continue to be found in 10 feet or less on the southeast side and north shoreline. Look for walleyes to hit minnows on the northwest side of the island, Claybanks area, and Nelson’s Flats in 10 to 12 feet. The bass bite remains consistent around docks and along shorelines, while crappies are being found in 10 to 12 feet on Kegg’s Reef and Center Reef.

Clearwater Lake, Granite Lake, Sugar Lake, and Cedar Lake are producing walleyes in 15 to 25 feet on leeches and fatheads. Look for sunfish in less than six feet on Clearwater, Cedar, Sugar, Lake John, Lake Marie, and Lake Sylvia. Cedar and Clearwater are giving up northern pike in 10 to 12 feet and bass are hitting plastics on the docks and shorelines of most lakes.

Sunfish are being caught along the shorelines of Chisago Lake, South Lindstrom Lake, North Center Lake, South Center Lake, and Kroon Lake. Throw spinnerbaits along the shorelines of Sunrise Lake for bass and northern pike. Walleyes are hitting shiners in 14 to 23 feet on South Lindstrom, Chisago, and Green Lake. Pods of crappies are being found suspended over deep water on most lakes.
