East Jordan Area
There was still over a foot of ice on Lake Charlevoix last week and anglers report a very good perch bite. The best action has come in the narrows near Ironton and off Washington Street in 25 to 58 feet of water. A lot of lake herring have been caught, too. There was still a foot of snow on the ground in the woods. Spring turkey season should be good.

Steelhead fishing has been decent on the Manistee River, but snow and ice have kept water temperatures low. There was still a foot of snow on the ground last week, and coyote hunting was winding down. Turkey numbers are down.

There was still 15 inches of ice on lakes Cadillac and Mitchell last week, but very few anglers were venturing out. A couple crappies have been caught. Spring turkey season should be fair. Birds are scattered.

Houghton Lake Area
There was still a foot of ice on Houghton Lake last week. Panfish action has been hit or miss, and fishing pressure has been very light. There was no snow on the ground. Turkey season should be decent.

Higgins Lake Area
Shore ice is falling apart on Higgins Lake and few anglers are still getting out. A fair number of perch have been caught around the island, but fishing is expected to end any day. There was very little snow on the ground. Spring turkey season should be decent.

Hubbard Lake Area
Ice is breaking away from shore on Hubbard Lake, and ice fishing has ended. Turkey hunting should be good, with decent numbers of birds in Alcona County.

There was still ice on Fletcher Pond last week, but it was not safe for foot traffic. Anglers are waiting for open water. Hunting pressure for coyotes has been light. Spring turkey-hunting season should be pretty good.
